Trust and Obey

Trust and Obey

Text: John H. Sammis, 1846-1919
Music: Daniel B. Towner, 1850-1919

 When we walk with the Lord
 in the light of his word,
 what a glory he sheds on our way!
 While we do his good will,
 he abides with us still,
 and with all who will trust and obey.

 Not a burden we bear,
 not a sorrow we share,
 but our toil he doth richly repay;
 not a grief or a loss,
 not a frown or a cross,
 but is blest if we trust and obey.

 But we never can prove
 the delights of his love
 until all on the altar we lay;
  for the favor he shows,
 for the joy he bestows,
 are for them who will trust and obey.

 Then in fellowship sweet
 we will sit at his feet,
 or we'll walk by his side in the way;
 what he says we will do,
 where he sends we will go;
 never fear, only trust and obey.

        Refrain:
 Trust and obey, for there's no other way
 to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

It Is Well With My Soul - Book Review

 Book Review  It Is Well With My Soul

This is absolutely one of the best devotionals that gives comfort and encouragement during difficult life situations.  Shelly Beach did an excellent job collecting the many life stories of people and sharing her situations to give hope to those who are hurting.

A story about Jill Gibbs on pg 105 was something that really spoke to me.
 Her advice for other women who mother with handicaps? “God gave you to your child.  He loves your child even more than you do.  He chose you to be your child’s mother, and your children aren’t getting the short end of the stick. Parenting may be difficult, but you’re the right parent for your son or daughter.”
With the diagnosis of my fibromyalgia I have struggled with a lot of false guilt. It is very painful at times to not be able to do activities with the family or even be able to do the simplest household duties. It is a relief to hear I am not messing my family up. With God’s help you can use illnesses and tragedies to make children stronger and full of compassion for others.

There are a lot of books out that are given to the hurting by well meaning people. Sometimes their “thoughtfulness” isn’t appreciated. This book is definitely one that will not be offensive but truly a treasure to own.

Forgiven

 “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven,
And whose sins are covered;
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin.
 Romans 4:7-8

Pardoned people are the only blessed people. The sentiments of the world are, Those are happy that have a clear estate, and are out of debt to man; but the sentence of the word is, Those are happy that have their debts to God discharged. O how much therefore is it our interest to make it sure to ourselves that our sins are pardoned! For this is the foundation of all other benefits. So and so I will do for them;
for I will be merciful.  -Matthew Henry

12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”  Hebrews 8:12 (NKJV)
